How Can The US COVID-19 Response Affect Trump’s Bid For Reelection?

All eyes are now on the United States of America as the country continues to lead with the most number of reported COVID-19 cases. Likewise, the US is also the country with the most number of deaths due to the severe pneumonia-like illness that originated in Wuhan, China. While the government is doing all that it can to address the COVID-19 crisis, many citizens are saying that US President Donald Trump has played a part in the worsening situation of the country. Trump is being blamed for the exponential rise in COVID-19 infection, as well as the crumbling healthcare system. Nonetheless, the POTUS remains positive that the United States is winning in this battle against the coronavirus.

As the 2020 presidential election nears, political experts believe that the COVID-19 situation in the United States would dictate Trump’s chances of winning another 4 years as president. Even as he claims that his administration did a great job in terms of COVID-19 response, the American people could say otherwise.

If Trump really wants to stay in the White House for a little longer, he would need to show the people that the country is actually winning in this crisis.

With Trump Administration Under Fire For Crippled Economy, Healthcare System Due To COVID-19, Could A New President Emerge This 2020?

Even from the very start, people have already blamed Trump for letting the novel coronavirus into the US borders. The first case of the disease was already reported in December 2019, while the World Health Organization (WHO) gave a public health emergency of international concern in January, giving the governments all around the world some time to decide on imposing travel restrictions and warnings.

However, Trump would not act on the growing coronavirus concern until March, when a couple of confirmed COVID-19 cases were already reported inside the United States. It would appear from this viewpoint that the Trump administration made a lapse in judgement in refusing to impose a travel ban, particularly to China and Europe, when there were still no reported cases of COVID-19 in the country. Hopefully, the people are watching in to forget about the stress from this crisis.

Based on this fact alone, people might be thinking twice about trusting the current president for another term in office. There are many qualities that the American people would want to see in a potential candidate, including motherhood, and so far in this pandemic situation, Trump is losing all those qualities that might help him win for reelection.
