The Impact of Steroids on Premature Death Among Men

Steroids are very popular among people nowadays because of its amazing benefits.  The use of steroids is originally for medical  purposes only but people, specifically men, have been using the drug for sports setting and personal reasons- boosting of muscle mass, increase performance during workout and shorten recovery time between workouts. Problem is that even though male are very much well aware of the possible impact of steroids to their health, they still keep on using it. Studies in Journal of Internal Medicine, found out that men who use androgenic anabolic steroids may face higher risk of early death or may encounter frequency in hospital admissions. According to the study, 540 men use the kind of steroids match with 5,450 controls.

In the period of almos 7 years, there were 1.3% deaths among users of anabolic steroids and 0.4% among participants in the control group which means that the death among steroids users are three times higher of those who do not take the drug. The number of hospital contacts was 0.81 among steroid users and 0.36 among those who do not use the drug. Some of the observed negative impacts of steroids are acne on face and body, gynaecomastia, erectile dysfunction. At least 10% of the users are affected with these impacts. “This study has shown that anabolic steroids are associated with a range of side effects that can be directly attributed to their pharmacological activities,” according to the lead author Dr. Henrik Horwitz, of the University of Copenhagen, in Denmark.
